Election candidates back housing pledge
Saturday 24th April 2010Two hundred and forty candidates standing for election have signed up to a National Housing Federation pledge on affordable homes.
The prospective parliamentary candidates who have so far backed the commitment come from the Labour, Liberal Democrat, Conservative and Green parties.
The pledge states: ‘I pledge to back the building of more affordable homes and to work towards all constituents having access to decent, affordable housing in safe and sustainable communities.’
Paul Rees, assistant director at the National Housing Federation, said: ‘It’s great to see so many candidates running for election backing our pledge to build more affordable homes.
‘With record numbers of people stuck on housing waiting lists and demand growing by the day, it’s crucial that politicians make a firm commitment to tackling the housing crisis after the election.’
