It doesn’t matter who you are or what job you apply for everyone is nervous in an interview situation – you should be concerned if you are not!

Below are our top five interview tips to help you on your way to success.

1. Preparation

Preparing for an interview is essential as it will give you confidence and enable you to be more relaxed in the meeting. Your CV has got you this far so it’s crucial you give a good interview.
Ensure you know the exact date, time and location of the interview as well as the name of the person you are meeting. First impressions are critical. Dress smartly and appropriately.
Arrive in good time so you can relax.

2. Research
Abode will give you an overview of the job, the organisation, its culture and personalities involved but this shouldn’t stop you from doing your own research. Look the company up on the internet. Check out recent deals, events and look at any press releases, staff profiles and the firm’s comments in any recruitment section.
Ask people who may have worked at that company what it is like.
Remember this is as much about you liking them as them liking you.
3. Know your own CV:
You will be questioned on your CV. It is the starting point of an interview so know it inside out. Ensure you can explain why you chose a particular course or employer and have reasons to hand as to why you left or why you are now looking to move on. Consider before the interview what your strengths and weaknesses are and why you are the right person for the job.
4. During the Interview
Greet the interviewer with a firm handshake, smile you will likely get a smile in return and it may break the ice. Good eye contact is essential throughout the interview. Take a seat when invited.
Some do’s and don’ts:
• Don’t fidget and direct your comments to everyone in the room – don’t just address one person;
• Don’t criticise your current employer;
• Do answer questions clearly without waffling;
• Do support your statements with examples;
• Don’t discuss salary at first interview – unless asked;
